Zambia’s National Parks

Zambia’s National Parks offer many incredible opportunities to experience the pristine wildlife in Zambia. Nothing quite beats the allure of a Safari adventure. 30% of the natural landscape of Zambia is dedicated to wildlife.

Zambia’s national parks are known to be the stomping grounds of several of the famous Big 5 animals. It also hosts the majestic Victoria Falls and is named after the fourth-longest river in Africa, the Zambezi. This means that Zambia is the ultimate place to be for a luxurious (or not so luxurious) safari expedition.

Whether you’re a birdwatcher, an adrenalin junkie or a cocktail-sipping spa hopper, our Zambian National Parks have something for everyone.

Navigating these unique parks and everything else this stunning country has to offer can be tricky, so we’ve put together some information to assist you.

Zambia’s national parks and a few Zambian must-sees

With 20 national parks and 34 game management areas, Zambia is by far one of the best safari locations to visit in the world.

The most popular parks to visit in Zambia are:

Kafue, Kasaka, Lochinvar, Lower Zambezi, Liuwa Plain, Mosi-oa-Tunya, North Luangwa, Nsumbu, Sioma Ngwezi, and South Luangwa National Parks.

Kafue is the second biggest park in the world and is also the oldest in Zambia. With 3 unique rivers running through this park it provides visitors with many different wildlife viewing opportunities and fantastic fishing opportunities as well.

The Lower Zambezi National Park: The Chiawa Game Management Area which is adjacent to the Lower Zambezi National Park is where you’ll find Baines’ River Camp. From our luxury accommodations at Baines’, you will have the opportunity to visit several of Zambia’s national parks. At Baines’, we have awe-inspiring wildlife and phenomenal tour experiences on offer. We are also a brick-and-mortar facility. This means we have air-conditioners in the safari chalets and other “home away from home” luxury comforts.

According to National Geographic, The Lower Zambezi National Park is the world’s first carbon-neutral national park. With a commitment to using sustainable energy solutions, Baines’ River Camp is a great place for wildlife and visitors alike. (We are proud to be in one of the National Parks involved in this level of global carbon footprint reduction.)

A couple of the neighbouring parks to the Lower Zambezi National Park are:

  • Kasanka Lochinvar National Park
  • Blue Lagoon National Park
  • Lochinvar National Park
  • Blue Lagoon National Park is a beautiful spot that has only recently been opened for visitors. Situated near Lusaka, this national park’s terrain is incredibly flat, unlike the other parks.
  • If you’re looking for high ranking parks on a global scale, we recommend Luangwa, Kafue or the Lower Zambezi National Park. If you are looking for a slightly more underdeveloped experience, with an array of wildlife then you want to aim to visit Luambe, Lukusuzi Liuwa Plan, West Lunga, Sioma Ngwezi or Nyika Plateau.
  • For more of a zoological experience where there are no predators, then we recommend Mosi-oa-Tunya which is close to Victoria Falls.
  • Bird-lovers and explorers should take a look a Mweru Wantipa, Isangano, Lavushi Manda and Lusenga Plain National Parks.

Some must-sees when staying in Zambia:

We recommend you hit a few of the biggies when visiting Zambia as well as the National Park of your choice.

The biggies:

  • Victoria Falls, cultural tour, high tea
  • Livingstone Island, town and museum
  • Devil’s pool tour and swim

Overall a safari trip to Zambia and specifically the Lower Zambezi National Parks will definitely be an experience of a lifetime. At Baines’ River Camp, we value our visitors and do our best to ensure they have the most incredible experience. Contact us today to book your stay!
