Nestled within the Chiawa Game Management Area, right next to the Lower Zambezi National Park, Baines’ River Camp offers an expansive playground spanning over 5,500 square kilometres. Here, sweeping vistas of the Zambezi River unfold, extending all the way to the UNESCO World Heritage site of Mana Pools in neighbouring Zimbabwe.
Location & Travel Logistics
Tucked away in the pristine wilderness, our unique location not only offers breathtaking views but also serves as a gateway for various safari adventures. Baines’ River Camp can be reached with a chartered flight to Royal airstrip (a 30-minute drive from camp), by river transfer if/when possible, or by road for those willing to drive the dirt roads leading to camp.
Royal Airstrip is a 30 minute game drive away from Baines’ River Camp. Landing at Royal airstrip you will be met by a member of the Baines’ River Camp team and continue to camp in an open safari vehicle.
Scheduled flights: Daily flights with Proflight between Livingstone and Lusaka between April and October. Low season flights Mon/Wed/Fri – 01h10 minutes flying time.
Connect to Royal Airstrip with Royal Zambezi Airlines, Proflight or Skytrails – 30 minutes flying time.
Private charter: Direct private charter flights between Livingstone and Royal Airstrip offered by Procharter and Skytrails. Total flying time: 01h45 minutes.
Direct flights between Mfuwe and Royal Airstrip June and October: Tuesday / Thursday / Sunday – 2 hour flight.
May – November: Mfuwe to Royal (via Lusaka): Tues, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday.
Private charter available with Skytrails and Procharter – 01h45 minutes flying time
Lusaka is a short 30 minute flight from Royal Airstrip. There are daily scheduled flights with Proflight, Royal Zambezi Airlines and Skytrails.

From Lusaka:
A three hour road transfer will take you to Gwabi River Lodge, where one of our team will collect you by boat for a 2-3 hour cruise back to Baines’.
From Other Safari Camps on the River:
We can arrange drop off/collection points with other camps on the Zambezi River. These transfers are usually done by boat and vary in duration, depending on the meeting point.
Lusaka to Baines’ River Camp is approximately 5 hours by road.

If you are self-driving, please make sure you have a high clearance vehicle. Please do not use Google Maps for directions and rather ask Linda our reservationist for a detailed set of directions.
