Experience Africa Your Way

When planning your trip to Africa, there are many ways in which you can experience the beautiful landscape, the untouched environment and the untamed wildlife.

Why should you go on an African safari?

The word ‘Safari’ means an overland journey to view animals in their natural environment.

A typical African safari will take place over a number of days where you’ll see animals, follow tracks and take many, many photographs of both the beautiful beasts and remarkable vistas in Africa.

Animals such as Elephant, Lion, Buffalo, Leopard and numerous species of plains game inhabit the picturesque landscape that is the Lower Zambezi. The birdlife is unrivalled with many unique and vibrant species on offer.

Types of accommodation?

Your safari accommodation can range from rustic to extreme luxury. At Baines’ River Camp, we offer the ultimate luxury African experience. From sleeping in airconditioned chalets, experiencing 5-star dining, game drives, river canoeing, sunset cruises and sport angling adventures. When you choose Baines, you decide to experience Africa in the lap of luxury where no detail has been spared in creating this oasis in the middle of the African wilderness.  Baines’ River Camp is situated on the Zambian banks of the Zambezi River in the unfenced wilderness of the Lower Zambezi Valley. We are located within the Chiawa Game Management Area adjacent to the Lower Zambezi National Park.

Here are just a few African Safari Activities and options you can choose from:

Guided Safari: Even though most safaris are guided, a guided safari refers to a safari that has one specialist guide for the full duration of the African safari that will accompany you for the duration of your stay.

Game drive: A game drive is conducted by a guide in a Safari Vehicle that is well equipped to traverse the rugged African bush, allowing you up close and personal experiences with wildlife. Game drives provide the best opportunity of seeing predators and large herds of buffalo in their natural habitat.

Walking Safari: Walking Safaris offer you the opportunity to take the time to appreciate nature. These safaris are accompanied by highly trained and extremely knowledgeable safari guide. You can expect to experience anything from following tiny beetle footprints in the dust to walking alongside Africa’s giant elephants. These expeditions are limited to a maximum of 4 guests and a minimum age restriction of 14 years applies.

Canoeing Safari: If you want a safari with a difference, then a canoeing safari is the way to go. The river gives you up-close-and-personal access to wildlife in the water and at the water’s edge. Quiet, serene, harmonious with nature, this type of game viewing allows you to view animals and birds from a very different angle.

Specialist Safari: A specialist safari is specially designed for you and deviates from standard safari activities. This type of safari is a great option for bird watching, sports angling and fly-fishing enthusiasts who only want to see and experience a very particular aspect of the safari. Please enquire for availability of packages on offer.

Photographic Safari: For photographers of every level, a photographic safari is a fantastic opportunity to capture wildlife in its natural habitat together with fellow enthusiasts or a private guide.

Luxury Safari cruise: Enjoy the ultimate luxury safari on aboard a private safari cruiser. A safari cruise is perfect for those who want the ultimate in luxury and truly unique experience. A safari cruise will take you to unspoiled destinations, giving you ever-changing scenery all while you sit back and relax. A perfect example of this is the MV Matusadona which operates on Zimbabwe’s Lake Kariba surrounded by the Matusadona National Park.

With so many African safaris to choose from, you can rest assured that you will find at least one way to experience Africa your way.
