Dear Valued Members and Friends of Baines River Camp,
It is with a heavy heart and tremendous reverence that I address you for the first time as the head of this remarkable camp. The recent passing of my father, Tim Featherby, the founder, and visionary of Baines’ River Camp, has been a deeply emotional time for our family and community. His legacy is undeniable, and it’s our mission to ensure that the light of his vision continues to shine bright.
A Deep Dive into New Beginnings
Being immediately thrown into the deep end wasn’t exactly my planned entry to this role. But as they say, adversity is often the best teacher. In the short span since taking the reins, I’ve embarked on three enlightening trips to the lodge. Each visit has granted me a clearer understanding of what Baines’ River Camp represents and the magic it offers to our guests.
In our continuous pursuit of excellence, a comprehensive audit has been conducted on all aspects of the lodge, focusing intently on guest experiences. I’m thrilled to share that we’ve expanded our operational facilities to guarantee an even more unforgettable stay for our guests.
Furthermore, to enhance the aesthetic appeal and comfort of our lodge, we’ve sourced various soft furnishings. Currently, they are on their way via truck and will soon add another layer of luxury and warmth to our Lodge ambiance.

It has been my immense pleasure to meet and get to know the 32 incredible individuals that make up our camp team. Their dedication, passion, and the love they pour into their roles are palpable. Together, we are committed to elevating every facet of Baines’ River Camp.
I’m also excited to announce two new additions to our family:
Assistant Camp Manager: Starting on the 1st of September, we will be introducing our new Assistant Camp Manager. Stay tuned for a more detailed introduction in our next edition.
Executive Chef and Food Consultant: We’ve contracted the expertise of a seasoned Cape Town-based executive chef and food consultant. Over the next three weeks, he will be with us, training our team and introducing new and tantalizing menus that spotlight local ingredients. Culinary delights await!
Oh, and on a lighter note, amidst all the whirlwind of activities, I managed to snag a decent-sized tiger fish. A small personal victory amidst the monumental tasks!

We are proud to announce Leonard Kalio, a stalwart of the lodge since its inception, as the new head of guest activities.
