Safari Workshops

Safari Workshops

Although Africa is more than a safari destination, with beaches, mountains, winelands and fascinating cities, the bush has a special magical attraction, inviting you to look further than a few game drives. Whether you enjoy bird watching, wildlife photography, angling or if you are intrigued by the intimate world of elephants, our specialist workshops under the guidance of professionals who are passionate about the African bush, offer the ideal 5-day getaways.

Baines River Camp Photographic Workshops
Photographic Workshops
Join David Rogers and other keen photographers in 4,000 square kilometres of unfenced wilderness and learn how to get the most out of both your camera gear and your own creativity. The Zambezi, Africa’s fourth largest river, sets the scene, whilst our well-equipped boardroom is the ideal venue for workshop sessions and image editing. Book your spot on one of the 2012 workshops in April or July.

Baines River Camp Bird Watching
The Bird Watch
Are you dying to see an African Skimmer, Pel’s Fishing Owl, Angola Pitta or a Livingstone Flycatcher? With ornithologist David Johnson at your side you will be amazed at the number of birds you will find in the Lower Zambezi Valley that feature on the area’s list of over 370 species. As we set off early each morning by boat, by game drive vehicle or on foot to explore the diverse habitats, all you need is a field guide, binoculars, a good hat and your bird list. All enthusiasts are welcome!

Baines River Camp Fly Fishing Clinics
Fly Fishing Clinics
Catching a Tiger fish on fly is widely considered to be the pinnacle of freshwater fly fishing and the opportunity to do so in such an amazing environment should not be missed! Run in conjunction with Tourette Fishing, the clinics will contain information gathered by the Baines’ guides over the years on how to find and catch Africa’s most powerful freshwater game fish on the Zambezi. With a ratio of two anglers per specialised boat, you’ll be assured of maximum attention from your guide, translating into more hook-ups!

Baines River Camp Elephant World
Elephant World
Together with Johan Marais, author of “Great Tuskers of Africa” and “In Search of Africa’s Great Tuskers" and from the comfort of a vehicle, boat or canoe, explore the intriguing world of elephants, of its matriarchs, bachelors, mock charges, herd hierarchies, tusks, grace and so much more. Still hunted across Africa in large numbers for their ivory, our continent’s heritage is in danger and the focus of this workshop is not only on their physical characteristics and social behaviour, but also on their conservation.
