GETTING THERE

By Air
To visit Zambia’s wildlife areas, Zambia has three main international airports on the tourist circuit, the capital, Lusaka, together with Livingstone at the Victoria Falls and Mfuwe in the South Luangwa National Park. Both Lusaka and Livingstone have daily flights from Johannesburg, South Africa.

If flying from Europe, British Airways offers three direct flights weekly from Heathrow to Lusaka.

  • From Lusaka;
    The majority of our guests prefer to fly from Lusaka down to the Zambezi Valley. A short 30 minute flight from where the last sector of the journey is a short drive on which the first of many elephants or other wildlife may be seen.
  • From Livingstone;
    If first visiting the Victoria Falls, a direct charter will take approximately 1hour 45 minutes to Royal Zambezi. Alternatively, depending on the numbers, it might be more economical to fly commercial to Lusaka and catch a shuttle flight from there.
  • From Mfuwe;
    If first visiting South Luangwa; In much the same manner as from Livingstone, a charter flight will take approximately 1 hour 45 minutes from Mfuwe, South Luangwa to Royal Zambezi.

Please contact us for current schedules and available options.

By Road For the more intrepid traveller, it is possible to drive to Baines’ River Camp. However, we would strongly recommend the use of a 4x4 vehicle as the last 60 km is extremely rough in places.

One of the most favoured alternatives on the driving option is to drive as far as Gwabi River Lodge, on the confluence of the Kafue and Zambezi rivers, where you will be met by one of our experienced river guides and transferred by boat for the last 40 kilomtres of your journey.
