The
lower Zambezi offers a vast array of bird species, including
the Angola Pitta, Livingstone’s Flycatcher, Pennant-winged
Nightjar, Böhm’s Spinetail, Osprey, Broad-billed
Roller, Narina Trogon and the Pel’s Fishing Owl,
many a prized species on a lifetime list.
Baines’
River Camp offers a four day, five night, workshop with
the entire camp being booked for the experience hosted
by David and Sally Johnson.
David
and Sally are passionate not just about birds, but all
flora and fauna, and the African landscape in general.
David was employed as an ornithologist by the Natal
Parks Board in South Africa for 20 years. He contributed
to many reference guides such as the South African Bird
Atlas, the Important Bird Areas Directory, Roberts’
Birds (7th Edition), and Pooley’s Trees of Natal.
He and Sally are co-authors of books on gardening with
indigenous plants.
David
and Sally have a wealth of experience in birding throughout
Africa. Countries that they have visited include Nigeria,
Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Ethiopia and Mâlawi.
Besides the African continent, David has frequently
led various birding expeditions to exotic destinations
such as Equador and the Galápagos Islands.
These
specialist courses are designed in such a way that guests
will undoubtedly learn a great deal about the birds,
trees and general habitats of the lower Zambezi at their
own pace whilst never losing sight of the primary objectives
of rest and relaxation.
