BIRDING
EXPERIENCE – DETAIL
In
cooperation with David and Sally Johnson, we offer birding
experiences which will be enjoyed by both beginners
and the more experienced enthusiasts. We use spacious
boats on the river, and game drive vehicles in the Lower
Zambezi National Park. Boating, driving and walking
ensure that we visit every different terrain and habitat;
we can’t promise that you will see every bird,
but we try very hard! You will be amazed at the number
of birds you will find with David and Sally at your
side.

NATIONAL PARK.
The focus is on birds, but not just identification:
emphasis will be given to life styles, adaptations and
ecological relationships. Birds illustrate almost every
aspect of life. We also explore other aspects of this
stimulating environment. Trees and flowers, and insects,
and the landscape itself are all relevant to the bird
life, as well as being interesting in their own right.
2008
Season
For
the 2008 season you can choose from the following dates:
05-10
June 2008
24-29 July 2008
06-11 November 2008
On
the day of your arrival you will have the opportunity
to take in the wonderful surroundings
and get comfortable in your luxurious room. You will
meet David and Sally, and the other participants in
and around the main lodge and on a sundown cruise on
the river. Your birding days will be filled with field
trips in the early morning, when the birds are most
active and singing their best, and in the late afternoon.
There will be lots of knowledge exchanged, and at all
times the outings will be geared to the mood and requests
of the party. Each evening David will present a slide
show, and tell you more about the birds you have seen
during the day.
You
are also at Baines’ to relax, enjoy the peaceful
surroundings and the wildlife. Whenever you feel like
a sleep-in, afternoon siesta, or reading your book,
that’s your choice. Or if you are keen to catch
a tiger fish instead of joining the group on a birding
trip, we will make all arrangements on the spot. For
those who are keen, bush walks with an experienced guide
can be arranged.
Essentials
to pack:
There are a few essentials that you will have to bring
with you to make a success of your birding days:

have several copies of the Roberts Birds of Southern
Africa VII field guide, the Newman’s and the
